HRW denounces death penalty against Sondos Asem and 35 Egyptian politicians

Human Rights Watch has denounced the trial and sentencing of Sondos Asem and 35 other Egyptian politicians and public figures for conspiring with foreign powers against the state as “politically motivated.”

The rights group said that that the case was “compromised by due process violations” and appears to have been “politically motivated.”

“The convictions are based almost entirely on security officials’ testimony,” it said.
